At The Meads Primary School, we believe that a high quality science education is fundamental for understanding the world through the disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics. All pupils should be taught essential aspects of the knowledge, methods, processes and uses of science. Through building up a body of key knowledge and concepts, pupils should be encouraged to develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about natural phenomena and to understand how science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave, and analyse causes. They will also deepen their respect for all living organisms and the physical environment around us, and increase their care and appreciation of it.
Science should be about developing children’s ideas and approaches that enable them to make sense of the world in which they live through investigation, along with using and applying process skills. The teachers at The Meads ensure that all children receive high quality teaching and learning experiences in order to develop their scientific enquiry and investigative skills. They are exposed to precise scientific vocabulary, which aids children’s knowledge and understanding not only of the topic they are studying, but of the wider world around them.
