TAG Rugby—Friday 12th May
On Friday afternoon, 24 pupils from The Meads took part in the East Grinstead Partnership Rugby Festival held at East Grinstead Rugby Club. It was a fantastic afternoon of rugby, with games and coaching by coaches from the East Grinstead Rugby Club.
Each of our teams played eight games, winning six of them, losing one and drawing one. Some excellent defending and brilliant tries where shown by all the children!
Jordan Laidlaw was particularly picked out by Steve Hill, Partnership Representative, for his great improvement and sportsmanship; while Izaak Shimizu was mentioned for his skills and team spirit. Also a well-deserved 'well done' to the whole team for their good behaviour, sportsmanship and improvement throughout the tournament!
Thank you to Miss McAlpine and Mrs Bayston for supporting the children while at the event.
On Monday 6th March a group of our children took part in the East Grinstead Swimming Gala at the Kings Centre in East Grinstead. The atmosphere was great, with all the teams cheering each other on. The children did a fantastic job, with both Aidan Sharp and Amelia Hayward, qualifying for the final for years 3/4. Robert Taylor also qualified for his years 5/6 race and finished in 2nd place - Congratulations Robert. Overall The Meads Finished in 3rd place out of 11 schools!!!
HUGE congratulations to the whole team - Amelia Hayward, George Hayward, Aidan Sharp, Sophie Howard, Robert Taylor, Izaak Shimizu, Freddie Beall, Stanley Pollard and Paige Bowley.

The Meads A Team were very dominant in their match on 23rd November against St. Peters. Despite this St. Peters scored first and we came back and scored a goal. The match winning goal was by Felix Robinson in the fourteenth minute of the fifteen minute match. We then played a second game against Blackwell and won 6:2. The Meads again was very dominant and took all our chances very well with Ollie Randall scoring a hat trick and Felix scoring two goals.
The Meads B Team played against Estcots Primary School. It was a very tight match with The Meads having much of the possession and Estcots only getting their chances from the counter attack. It was a goalless first half, but after half time kick-off Estcots intercepted a goal and scored an open goal. The Meads came back and won a corner. Louis Montagnon crossed the goal from the corner into the penalty area. Adam Wheeler did a flick which rebounded off the keeper and from the rebound Harry Rice stretched and tapped the ball into the net. The final score was 1:1.
Thank you to Mr Mills for taking us and helping us with our training and Mrs Smith for organising the games. Thank you also to our parents for coming and supporting us.

Eighteen pupils travelled to Sackville on Tuesday 8th November to take part in the second evening of the EG schools Sportshall Athletics competitions. The event, which is predominantly run by Sackville’s Sports Leaders, (including some of our very own old Meads pupils) kicked off with the track events. Obstacle relays were first up with a variety of obstacles to tackle including; hurdles, high steppers, speed bouncers and tunnels. The obstacles proved to be no problem for Team Meads and our boys team of four finished in 3rd place and girls team of four in 4th. Next, was the flat sprints where children sprint the length of the sports hall and back again, which is probably about 80m altogether. These races were completed in teams of two. There was a 1 lap each race, a 2 lap each race and a 3 lap each race – which as you can imagine is pretty tiring! The children ran tremendously, with a real look of concentration and determination on some of their faces.
After the track events came the field events, the team took part in the following events; vertical jump, seated chest push, standing triple jump, standing long jump, speed bounce and soft javelin. Unfortunately we didn’t get access to all the scores in the field events but I know the whole team did amazingly well. Thank you to Matthew Lehman who stepped in at the last minute to make sure we had a full team, and to all the parents that helped with transporting the children to the event. Also a special thank you goes to Mrs Brain for giving up her evening to come and support the teams as well!
On Wednesday 19th October our Year 5 and Year 6 netball teams played their first fixture in the EG schools netball league held at EG sports Club. The match was against Blackwell, the team played brilliantly, with some great end to end action resulting in us scoring 5 goals. The final score was 5-5. We all witnessed some really impressive netball, well done Year 6.
It was then Team B’s turn! The first match was against Blackwell B team, we had to quickly adapt to an unexpected situation of playing netball with no goal posts! The children had to score a goal by receiving a pass on the end line instead of shooting through a hoop. At half time we got moved to another court which had posts but unfortunately we lost 7-3.
Thank you to all the children for representing The Meads so brilliantly and to all the parents who helped with transport and who stayed to cheer our teams on. A special thank you must go to Mrs Taylor for helping to coach the children.
Cross Country Success!!
Well done to all the children who participated in the Cross Country Event at East Court organised by the EGAC. What a great start to the sporting year - you all did yourselves and The Mead's proud!
A special congratulations to Max Aubrey who was placed 7th, Robert Taylor who was placed 9th, Matthew Lehman who was placed 24th and Izaak Shimizu who was placed 25th and all received a special medal!
Also a big well done to Amy Rose who was the only girl to participate and did brilliantly!
Lastly a massive congratulations to the boys team who came in Third place overall!
Thank you to Mrs Perry who gave up her Sunday afternoon to join us at East Court.

Sports Hall Athletics
On Tuesday 10th November, 18 of us went to Sports Hall Athletics at Sackville which gave us the opportunity to try lots of new athletics activities. We took part in two or three different activities each including ‘over and under’, ‘speed bounce’, ‘2 x 2 lap’, ‘chest pass’ and ‘4 x 1 relay’. It was really fun to try the new actitivies and has made us want to try other events and look forward to next summer.

The Sainsbury's School Games Mark is a Government led awards scheme launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. We are delighted to have received this award and will continue to develop our commitment to sports at The Meads.
The Meads took part in Area Sports at Sackville School on 24th June. The events included sprint, 100m relay, obstacle course, long jump, broad jump, 800m and 50m sprint amongst others. Twelve schools in all competed and we competed in the big schools section and really enjoyed taking part. The weather was fantastic and the atmosphere was great. A big crowd was cheering us on through all the events and it was really loud. We really enjoyed ourselves and hope to get picked again next year.
Report by Stanley Pollard and Cian O’Connor
After a fantastic day last Friday we can confirm that order of teams as follows:
1st The Green Team
2nd The Blue Team
3rd The Yellow Team
4th The Red Team
Congratulations to the green team and all the competitors who thoroughly enjoyed the day.
On Wednesday 3rd June, 10 year 3 and 4 children participated in a Tri Golf competition against 16 other schools at Imberhorne Upper School. There were 8 different activities for the children to complete, with each activity taking approximately 7 minutes. The children did extremely well, in part due to the excellent coaching sessions provided by Mr Ben Knight over the spring term. The team were taken by Mrs Driver and Miss Rout and they all thoroughly enjoyed the morning. The Meads came 5th out of 16 with a final score of 926 points. Well done to everyone!
Congratulations to the dance squad who took part in the celebration of dance at Sackville yesterday. Nearly all the local schools presented a dance performance to parents, heads and staff from all over the area. As ever, our pupils were well behaved, enthusiastic and their performance was slick and well-rehearsed. Thank you to all of them and Miss Churchyard for their hard work and the weeks of rehearsals that have taken place. Thanks also to Harvey Snashfold from Sackville who supported the choreography.
East Grinstead Swimming Gala
A team of 13 swimmers took part in the East Grinstead Schools Swimming Gala in March. The team did really well and all supported and encouraged each other to come 6th overall.
